Twelve people were said to be on board the plane – which was said to be on the way to Idaho.
KSFY reporter Ricardo Lewis tweeted: “Nine people are dead including the pilot and two children after a plane crash in rural Brule County near Chamberlain according to the Brule County State’s Attorney Theresa Maule.“12 were on board the plane.”
National Transportation Safety Board’s Peter Knudson told the ArgusLeader that a Pilatus PC-12 had 12 people on board when it crashed at about 12:30 pm (local time) shortly after taking off from Chamberlain.
The plane was bound for Idaho Falls, Idaho, Knudson added, with nine people killed in the crash and three injured.
