TAAG Angola plots possible return to Ghana market

TAAG Angola plots possible return to Ghana market | By Joojo Maapa | TAAG Angola, Angola’s national carrier says it plans to deepen its domestic network and expand its international foot prints including re-introducing flights to Accra following the receipt of the first of four Boeing 787-9 aircraft.

TAAG Angola suspended flights to Accra, Ghana in June 2023, few months after it commenced scheduled flights to the West Africa country. It planned to resume last year but challenges with aircraft acquisition meant it couldn’t materialize.

Angola’s Minister of Transport, Ricardo d’Abreu, welcoming TAAG’s new Boeing 787-9 aircraft in Luanda on Thursday, Feb 2, 2025, said the airline will improve connectivity through enhanced domestic and international routes, along with the strengthening of TAAG as part of the short-term objectives for the national carrier.

The acquisition of the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is part of TAAG’s broader strategy to establish itself as a modern and competitive airline capable of delivering quality service, he noted.

Minister d’Abreu outlined the government’s recent strategic policies aimed at reinforcing the civil aviation sector, which include significant legal and institutional reforms. He pointed to the improvement of airport infrastructure and incentives for sustainable growth as critical elements for advancing civil aviation in the country.

He also mentioned the certification and modernization efforts at regional airports, such as the recent upgrades at Paulo Teixeira Jorge Airport in Catumbela.

“Angolan civil aviation has made significant progress, particularly regarding infrastructure investments,” Mr. d’Abreu noted.
