Ghanaian Scholar Dr Kwame Adom Promoted to Full Professor of Business at Burman University | Dr Kwame Adom, a distinguished Ghanaian academic, has been promoted to the rank of Full Professor of Business at Burman University in Canada, effective September 1, 2025.
The promotion marks a major milestone in his career, positioning him among the very few Ghanaian scholars currently holding professorial rank at Burman University and within Canada’s wider academic space.
Dr Adom brings to this achievement an impressive record of teaching, research, and professional engagement across three continents: Africa, Europe, and North America. With a strong academic background spanning management, entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, and strategic planning, he has cultivated a comprehensive approach to business education that blends theory with practice.
Educated in top institutions in the UK and Ghana, Dr Adom has used his training in strategic planning, financial management, entrepreneurial innovation, and marketing to shape a career defined by analytical rigour and innovative thinking. As a consultant, researcher, and academic, he has guided organisations, entrepreneurs, and students to achieve excellence.
He treasures teaching as a “privileged position,” approaching it with modesty and deep respect for students and colleagues. His philosophy emphasizes critical thinking, creativity, and balance, encouraging learners to draw on both textbook materials and original, paradigmatic texts while developing on-the-spot initiative.
Dr Adom’s contribution to research has earned him recognition internationally. In 2024, he won Burman University’s Excellence in Scholarship Award. The following year, at the Academy of African Business & Development Conference in Johannesburg, his co-authored paper on immigrant entrepreneurship in Ghana’s informal economy won third-best paper recognition from Taylor & Francis.
His research interests reflect a deep connection to Africa, particularly Ghana, where he has conducted extensive studies on entrepreneurship dynamics. These include the motives of Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprise (MSME) owners, the interplay between formal and informal economies, gender and cultural issues in entrepreneurship, and socioeconomic development. His current projects explore immigrant entrepreneurship in both Ghana and Canada, as well as the impact of religious rituals on female entrepreneurs’ performance.
