Air Tanzania will officially launch three weekly flights from Dar es Salaam to Accra via Lagos today, Wednesday, December 3, 2025.

The maiden flight, Flight TC 235 is scheduled to arrive at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport at 18:00 hours local time.

The new route represents a significant boost for tourism, trade, and connectivity between East and West Africa, positioning Accra as a growing aviation hub in West Africa.

It is also expected to strengthen Ghana’s connection with one of Africa’s fastest-growing tourism and business destinations.

Over the past year, there has been increased interest in the Ghana–Tanzania travel corridor, driven by more leisure travel, religious tourism, and expanding commercial partnerships between the two countries.

The three-times-weekly service, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, is expected to greatly ease travel for business travelers, government officials, students, and tourists who currently depend on long, costly connections through Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Kigali, or Middle Eastern hubs to travel between the two nations.

Ghana’s tourism industry is also set to benefit. With Dar es Salaam as the main gateway to Tanzania’s attractions, including Zanzibar, Serengeti National Park, and Mount Kilimanjaro, the service provides seamless travel for Ghanaian holidaymakers exploring East Africa’s world-class tourism sites.

Conversely, the increasing number of Tanzanians visiting Ghana for historical tourism, cultural experiences, December in GH, and conferences will now have a direct route into Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.

Mercy Akaliga-Wemah, Team Lead of Travel Planners, a destination management company based in Accra that often organizes outbound tours to Zanzibar, Tanzania’s semi-autonomous region, told AviationGhana, “A direct flight between Ghana and Tanzania is definitely a game changer. This will significantly improve travel time, make weekend getaways feasible, and create more package options.”

The expansion of Air Tanzania into Ghana reflects a broader trend of African airlines strengthening intra-Africa connectivity, a key goal of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).

The move by Air Tanzania is similar to strategic expansions by carriers like ASKY Airlines and Air Côte d’Ivoire, which have increased services to Ghana in response to rising demand.

Air Tanzania’s entry is expected to stimulate competitive fares, improve cargo options for exporters, and enhance bilateral relations in tourism, agriculture, education, and oil and gas.
