AWA’s E190 to Boost Domestic Tourism – Tourism Minister | David Kwakutse
Ghana’s Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, says Africa World Airlines’ acquisition of an Embraer E190 will help deepen partnerships and support sustainable growth in the country’s tourism industry.
Speaking at the official welcome ceremony for the 102-seat aircraft last weekend, Madam Gomashie described the arrival as more than a fleet expansion, saying it represented “progress, partnerships and possibilities of sustainable growth.”
The aircraft comes as Ghana’s domestic aviation market faces limited seat capacity and relatively high fares on some routes, with demand exceeding available seats during periods of strong travel. The E190 would roughly double AWA’s capacity compared with its 50-seat ERJ-145 aircraft.
The new jet is AWA’s first Embraer E190 and is being introduced through its shareholder, HNA Aviation. The airline plans to expand its Embraer fleet to 10 aircraft by 2028.
