Africa’s aviation services market is projected to generate $140 billion in demand over the next 20 years, reflecting the rapid expansion and modernisation of the continent’s commercial aircraft fleet, according to Boeing’s 2026 Africa Commercial Market Outlook.
Boeing forecasts annual growth of 4.6% in aviation services demand between 2026 and 2045, driven by the need to maintain, operate and support a significantly larger fleet across the continent. Africa’s commercial jet fleet is expected to rise from 755 aircraft in 2025 to 1,625 by 2045.
Maintenance will account for the largest share of the market, with Boeing projecting $90 billion in demand over the forecast period. Digital services will represent another $45 billion, while training and pilot services are expected to account for $5 billion.
The projected growth is expected to encourage greater investment in local aviation capabilities, including maintenance infrastructure, technician training and digital technologies. Boeing said the objective is to improve fleet availability while reducing airlines’ reliance on support networks located outside Africa.
For African airlines, the expansion of local maintenance and aftermarket capabilities could become increasingly important as fleet numbers rise. The continent is forecast to receive 1,165 new aircraft over the next two decades, with single-aisle airplanes accounting for 75% of deliveries.
The services opportunity also extends beyond traditional maintenance. The forecast identifies digital capabilities as a major area of demand, reflecting the growing role of technology in airline and aviation operations.
Boeing’s outlook indicates that fleet growth could therefore generate a wider aviation industrial ecosystem across Africa, involving maintenance, repair and overhaul, digital services, training and other aftermarket activities.
