Ghana’s Cabinet has approved three key visa waiver agreements with the Maldives, Zambia, and Antigua and Barbuda, setting the stage for Parliament to ratify these deals and enable visa-free travel among the nations.

The West African country’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the development via Facebook on April 22, 2026. He explained that the agreements, signed during separate diplomatic engagements, will come into effect once Parliament grants its approval.

The arrangements grant visa-free stays of up to 30 days for holders of ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports from all four countries.

Mr. Ablakwa also noted that Parliament’s ratification is expected shortly, after which these agreements will become legally binding.

The bilateral pact with the Maldives dates back to March 2023, when both nations signed a mutual visa exemption agreement. At that time, the Maldives Foreign Ministry expressed readiness to implement the agreement and was awaiting Ghana’s response.

Tuesday’s Cabinet approval marks Ghana’s official move towards activating that agreement, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing regional travel connectivity.
