The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the immediate closure of the Premium Passport Application Centres in Accra and Kumasi, effective February 20, 2026, as part of administrative changes to passport service delivery in the country.

In a public notice issued in Accra on February 23, the Ministry advised all applicants, particularly those with pending applications at the affected centres, to redirect their processing activities to the Regional Passport Application Centres nationwide. Applicants may also contact the Passport Office Client Service Unit for assistance regarding ongoing applications.

The Ministry did not provide detailed reasons for the closure but assured the public of its continued commitment to delivering quality passport services despite the transition. Officials emphasised that existing applications would still be processed through the regular passport infrastructure to minimise disruption to applicants.

The closure affects applicants who opted for premium services, which were designed to offer expedited processing and enhanced customer convenience at dedicated facilities in the two major cities.

With the shutdown, the Regional Passport Application Centres are expected to absorb additional demand, potentially increasing traffic at those facilities in the short term.

The Ministry encouraged affected clients to seek guidance through official communication channels to avoid misinformation and possible exploitation by middlemen.

The announcement comes at a time when passport demand in Ghana continues to rise due to growing international travel, labour mobility, and education-related migration trends.

Authorities reiterated their assurance that measures are being implemented to maintain service standards and ensure applicants experience minimal inconvenience during the transition period.
