The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening and modernising the country’s aviation sector, pledging sustained investment and policy support to enhance infrastructure, safety and competitiveness.

The Minister for Transport, Mr. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, at the launch of the 40th anniversary launch of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), noted that the aviation industry remains a critical driver of economic growth, trade, tourism and regional connectivity, making continued government backing essential to positioning Ghana as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.

The assurance was given during engagements with sector stakeholders, where authorities highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at improving airport infrastructure, regulatory oversight and operational efficiency across the industry.

Mr. Nikpe emphasised that modern aviation infrastructure is central to national development objectives, particularly efforts to expand international connectivity and improve passenger experience at airports.

He also noted that sustained investment would support the long-term growth of airlines operating in Ghana while strengthening the country’s competitiveness within the sub-region.

The commitment, he noted, aligns with broader national strategies to modernise transport systems and leverage aviation as a catalyst for economic transformation, including tourism development and trade facilitation.

Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, Director-General of the GCAA said the Authority is “on course to with our vision to becoming a world-class aviation regulator and air navigation service provider.”

He commended the current and past management and staff of the for how far the Authority has come.

The anniversary, which will climax in May 2026, marks four decades since the establishment of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in 1986 under PNDC Law 151 as an autonomous body responsible for regulating civil aviation and providing air navigation services in Ghana.
