Director-General of GCAA | By Dominick Andoh | In a significant transition within the aviation sector, President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Stephen Wilfred Arthur as the Acting Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority ( GCAA).

He takes over from Ing. Charles Kraikue, whose appointment was terminated on April 2, 2025.

This transition marks the culmination of Kraikue’s exemplary four-year leadership, during which he made substantial progress in enhancing Ghana’s aviation landscape.

During his tenure, which began in June 2020, Kraikue spearheaded several transformative initiatives that have left an indelible mark on the GCAA and the country’s aviation sector. One of his most notable achievements was overseeing the construction and operationalization of the new GCAA head office, a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of Ghana’s aviation regulatory body The modern infrastructure is not only a symbol of progress for the GCAA but also reflects a commitment to improving the working conditions for staff and facilitating better service delivery to stakeholders.

In addition to infrastructure development, Kraikue played a pivotal role in facilitating the establishment of more airlines in Ghana.

Under his leadership, the GCAA implemented policies that encouraged domestic and international airline investments, leading to a diversified aviation market. His initiatives have significantly increased connectivity for passengers and cargo alike, making Ghana an attractive destination for airlines looking to expand their operations in West Africa.

Furthermore, Kraikue’s tenure was marked by efforts to attract more international flights to Accra’s Kotoka International Airport. Through strategic partnerships and marketing initiatives, he enhanced the visibility of Ghana’s aviation sector on the global stage. This included negotiations with various airline operators, resulting in increased flight frequency and new routes that have bolstered tourism and commerce in the region.
