President John Dramani Mahama has assured airlines that ongoing upgrades at Terminal 2 of the Accra International Airport will meet the high standards of Terminal 3, easing concerns and encouraging carriers to relocate operations.

Speaking during an inspection of works at the Accra International Airport, the President acknowledged hesitation among some airlines about moving to Terminal 2 but expressed confidence that the transformation underway would change their stance.

“I hear some airlines are reluctant to move to Terminal 2. But what I am going to see at Terminal 2 today, I am sure when we finish, they will be ready to move, ” he said.

The government is repurposing Terminal 2 as part of a broader strategy to make T2 serve both domestic and international passengers in order to maximise the use and returns on existing T2 infrastructure.

The refurbishment includes significant technological and operational upgrades. As reported by AviationGhana earlier,Terminal 2 will feature modern aviation systems such as advanced 3D security scanners, upgraded baggage handling, and improved passenger processing technologies comparable to those in leading global airports, when the on-going works are completed.

The integration of both terminals through a new concourse is also expected to enhance connectivity and passenger flow.

With these developments, President Mahama believes, airlines will gain confidence in Terminal 2’s capabilities, supporting Ghana’s ambition to position itself as a competitive aviation hub in West Africa.
