Qatar Airways Advances Starlink Rollout Across Boeing 787 Fleet | Qatar Airways is on track to complete the installation of Starlink high-speed satellite Wi-Fi across its Boeing 787 fleet by the end of 2026, as the airline accelerates efforts to improve internet connectivity for passengers.
The airline has now equipped 150 widebody aircraft with Starlink, including the world’s first Starlink-enabled Boeing 787-9. According to Gulf News, the Boeing 787 programme is more than 83 per cent complete, with the airline maintaining its target of completing the rollout before the end of the year.
Qatar Airways has also completed the Starlink installation across its Boeing 787-8 fleet in just seven months. The development adds to its completed rollouts across the Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 fleets.
The airline now operates what it describes as the world’s first and largest Starlink-equipped fleets of the Boeing 777, Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. Qatar Airways previously completed installations across its Boeing 777 fleet in nine months and its Airbus A350 fleet in eight months.
Starlink-equipped aircraft can deliver Wi-Fi speeds of up to 500 megabits per second, allowing passengers to browse the internet, communicate, work and stream content during flights.
The airline has positioned the technology as a major improvement to the inflight passenger experience, offering complimentary internet access on Starlink-equipped aircraft. Qatar Airways says Starlink is currently available on its Boeing 777, A350 and 787 aircraft serving more than 130 destinations.
Qatar Airways was also the first airline to introduce Starlink on long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes across six continents.
The continued rollout reflects the growing adoption of satellite-based connectivity in commercial aviation, as airlines increasingly seek to provide passengers with faster and more reliable internet access while travelling at cruising altitude.
