Defence Minister, Seven Others Killed in Military Helicopter Crash | By Dominick Andoh | Ghana is in mourning following the tragic loss of Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and seven others in a military helicopter crash near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.
The fatal crash involved a Ghana Armed Forces Helicopter Z9 , which departed from Accra earlier today with a total of eight people on board — three crew members and five passengers. The aircraft was en route to Obuasi when it went down under yet-to-be-determined circumstances.
Among the deceased were Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Member of Parliament and Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology (MEST), and other high-ranking government officials.
According to preliminary reports, the helicopter lost contact with air traffic control shortly before its scheduled arrival in Obuasi. The Ghana Armed Forces, National Security, and Aviation Safety authorities are currently conducting a joint investigation.
Government officials have expressed deep sorrow over the incident, describing it as a national tragedy. The Office of the President has ordered flags to fly at half-mast.
