Emirates to start flights to Jamaica in April

Accra, Ghana. Emirates to start flights to Jamaica in April | Ghanaian passengers will have the option to travel to Jamaica with Emirates Airlines.

Currently, Emirates operates daily flights to Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

The new service will include a weekly flight from Dubai, UAE, to Montego Bay, Jamaica, making a stop in Frankfurt, Germany. This will allow passengers departing from Accra to connect easily to the beautiful Caribbean island of Jamaica.

Condor Flugdienst will operate the Frankfurt to Montego Bay leg under a codeshare agreement with Emirates. The service is expected to commence on April 10, 2025, and run until December 26, 2026.

Ghana’s ‘Year of Return’, ‘Beyond the Return’, and December in Ghana tourism projects have positioned it as the gateway for a significant number of people of African descent in North America and the Caribbean to reconnect with their ancestry. This region constitutes Ghana’s leading inbound source market, followed closely by the UK and West African neighbours Nigeria.

In 2019, international (inbound) tourist arrivals stood at 1.1 million. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, there was a sharp decline of 69 percent. There was a significant rebound in the third and fourth quarters of 2021, resulting in a surge in total arrivals during that period.

The positive trend continued, with arrivals nearly doubling in 2022, marking a 47 growth. In 2023, arrivals reached 1,148,002, showing a 25 percent increase from the previous year and a 2 percent increase above pre-COVID figures, signalling a strong recovery

The challenge with multiple flight options from the Caribbean islands to Ghana will be greatly resolved with the launch of Emirates’ service.
