Ghana and Morocco Explore Visa Waiver to Boost Tourism

Ghana and Morocco Explore Visa Waiver to Boost Tourism | In a significant move aimed at enhancing tourism and fostering closer diplomatic and economic ties, Ghana and Morocco have reached an agreement to initiate a visa waiver for all categories of travellers between the two nations.

This decision promises to unlock a wealth of opportunities for both countries, enabling a seamless travel experience that will greatly benefit their vibrant tourism sectors.

Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced the promising agreement, revealing that it will be presented to the parliaments of both countries for ratification in the upcoming weeks. “We have both additionally pledged to deepen collaboration in agribusiness, tourism, and security,” he stated following fruitful discussions with Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil, the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana.

The potential waiver is particularly significant given the unique offerings of both countries in the tourism space. Ghana, renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage, including the historic Cape Coast and Elmina castles, offers a profound exploration of African narratives.

Meanwhile, Morocco boasts stunning landscapes from the Sahara Desert to the Atlas Mountains, alongside a rich tapestry of history and modernity in cities like Marrakech and Casablanca. Facilitating easier travel between the two will not only increase tourist footfall but also encourage cultural exchanges that enrich both nations.

In addition to the visa waiver discussions, Mr. Ablakwa highlighted Morocco’s commitment to education by announcing the doubling of annual scholarships for Ghanaian students—from 90 to 180—starting this year. This initiative further exemplifies the strengthening ties between the nations and their shared vision for a brighter future.
