Ghana: Int. travellers to face delays today | Travellers originating their flights from Accra’s Kotoka International Airport in Ghana, have to deal with flight delays resulting from a worldwide third-party IT system glitch on Friday, July 19, 2024.
The IT problem disrupted air transport, some ground transport, healthcare, and operations of other businesses on Friday. That meant some airlines mainly from the USA and Europe couldn’t depart their hubs on-time and will arrive in Accra late. This will ultimately affect the scheduled departure time initially advertised by these airlines.
Eloina Baddoo, President of the Board of Airline Representatives Ghana, told AviationGhana that the glitch has affected some airlines servicing the Kotoka International Airport and will likely affect the timing of the outbound flights from Accra.
The International Air Transport Association (IATA), in a statement copied to AviationGhana noted that: “Air transport is among the many industries affected by today’s worldwide IT issues with Microsoft and Crowdstrike. We sympathize with travelers who face disruption because of these issues which are outside of airlines’ control, and we thank travelers for their patience while Microsoft and Crowdstrike deploy solutions.”
