Ghana Marks Muslim Festival of Eid-ul-Fitr with Extra Holiday | Ghana’s Ministry of the Interior has officially designated Monday, March 31, and Tuesday, April 1, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
President John Dramani Mahama previously announced that an extended holiday period would be established to honor this important celebration.
In a statement issued on Saturday, March 22, by Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, it was clarified that Eid-ul-Fitr, which falls on Sunday, March 30, 2025, is recognized as a statutory public holiday.
To align with existing protocols and prioritize public interest, President Mahama has enacted an Executive Instrument (E.I.) under Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), extending the holiday to include the subsequent Monday and Tuesday.
This initiative not only fulfills a commitment made during the president’s campaign but also acknowledges the essential role the Muslim community plays in Ghana’s national development and social fabric.
