Lion Air mainly transports Hajj pilgrims from Ghana annually, facilitating their participation in this important religious duty. Emirates and Qatar Airways are the primary Middle Eastern carriers operating from Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.

Interest in the Ghana market from Saudi Arabia follows Virgin Atlantic’s plans to postpone its return to Accra until further notice. Originally scheduled for May 1, 2025, the airline will now delay its launch due to challenges with Rolls-Royce engines affecting its Boeing fleet, with at least one of Virgin’s Boeing 787 aircraft currently unavailable.
