Ghana’s First MRO Facility Set to Welcome Cessna SkyCourier | By Dominick Andoh | Ghana is set to make a significant leap in its aviation capabilities as the country’s first Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Kotoka International Airport welcomes a Cessna SkyCourier aircraft to its new hangar.
The 19-seater Cessna SkyCourier will undertake a demonstration flight from Accra to Ho Airport, a test run ahead of possible scheduled passenger operations by a new domestic airline expected to launch next year.
This development further highlights the growing role of the MRO in positioning Ghana as a key aviation hub.
The MRO journey began over five years ago when 3AMS-CELMS initiated its certification process. In 2022, the GCAA cleared the company to enter stage four of the five-stage approval process, signalling strong regulatory confidence.
Speaking to AviationGhana, Mr. Clifford Martey Korley, Managing Director of 3AMS-CELMS, confirmed that all key personnel, including certified engineers, are already on board. These professionals are trained and equipped to service narrow-body aircraft, including Embraer Regional Jets (ERJs), Bombardier Q400s, and similar models, placing Ghana at the heart of the aviation maintenance ecosystem for commercial and private jet operators in West Africa.
“Our facility is ready. All construction is done, and our offices are fully equipped. We are now focused on fitting the necessary tools, preparing for the final GCAA inspection, and welcoming the Cessna SkyCourier for its demo flight,” Mr. Martey Korley said.
Once operational, the MRO will provide much-needed relief to local carriers such as Africa World Airlines (AWA) and PassionAir, which currently depend on foreign MROs for major repairs at high cost and with extended downtimes.
With over 32 registered airlines in West Africa but limited regional MRO capacity, Ghana’s entry into this space reduces reliance on facilities in Ethiopia, Egypt, or South Africa, while also enhancing revenue generation and supporting Ghana’s bid to regain FAA Category-1 status.
“This project is not just about maintenance, it’s about repositioning Ghana as a trusted aviation hub for West Africa,” Mr. Martey Korley added.
AviationGhana visited 3AMS-CELMS Limited’s state-of-the-art hangar on the airside of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Monday, September 22, 2025, and revealed remarkable progress. The main structural works are complete, flooring has been laid, and administrative offices within the hangar are fully fitted.
