Ghana’s New Hajj Village 55% Complete, Set for End-2026 Opening | By Patrick Acheampong
The Board of Directors of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), led by Chairman James Agalga, has conducted a working visit to inspect progress on the new Hajj Village project under construction near the Kotoka International Airport, with officials confirming the facility is 55 percent complete and on track for delivery by the end of 2026.
During the inspection, Director of Projects, Engineering and Construction, Rev. Solomon Adjaso Abijah, briefed the Board on the scope of the multipurpose complex, which will include a residential facility, terminal building, mosque, modern tennis court, Hajj administrative offices and an expanded commercial area.
According to project officials, the commercial component will feature retail shops, restaurants, an event centre and recreational spaces designed to generate non-aeronautical revenue streams for the airport operator while improving passenger experience.
Rev. Abijah noted that the project is intended to provide a more dignified and comfortable environment for Ghanaian pilgrims prior to their annual journey to Saudi Arabia, addressing longstanding concerns about congestion and temporary arrangements previously used during Hajj operations.
Board Chairman Hon. Agalga commended contractors for the pace of work, stating that the development aligns with the government’s broader vision to enhance aviation infrastructure and improve travel facilitation for pilgrims.
He further assured that the Board remains committed to working closely with project teams to ensure the facility becomes operational as scheduled.
The Hajj Village project forms part of wider infrastructure upgrades being undertaken at Kotoka International Airport to strengthen operational capacity while diversifying revenue sources beyond traditional aeronautical income.
