KLM Marks 65 Years of Connecting Ghana to the World | By Dominick Andoh | KLM celebrates 65 years of service in Ghana, reaffirming its place as one of the country’s most enduring and trusted international airlines.

Since its inaugural flight to Accra in 1960, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has evolved alongside Ghana’s aviation and economic landscape, adapting to new challenges while maintaining its mission of connecting people, markets, and cultures.

Speaking to AviationGhana.com, Isabelle Indeweij Gerlings, Country Manager for KLM Ghana, described the airline’s six-decade journey as one defined by innovation, resilience, and partnership.

“Our story in Ghana is one of growth and commitment. From introducing modern aircraft such as the Boeing 787 Dreamliner to embracing digital booking and check-in systems, KLM has continuously evolved to meet the expectations of Ghanaian travelers,” she said.

Over the years, KLM has served as a vital bridge for trade and tourism between Ghana and the Netherlands. Its daily flights between Accra and Amsterdam have enabled thousands of Ghanaians to access European markets and have supported Dutch investors exploring opportunities in Ghana.

Beyond transport, KLM’s legacy also includes cultural exchange and community engagement. The airline continues to support education and sustainability programs, while promoting Ghana as a premier destination in Europe.

Gerlings said KLM’s partnership with Air France and the SkyTeam alliance remains a cornerstone of its strategy, offering passengers seamless connections across hundreds of destinations worldwide.

“The next decade will focus on sustainability, digital innovation, and deepening partnerships that support Ghana’s growth as a regional aviation hub,” she added.
