KLM Strengthens Ghana–Netherlands Business Ties Through Aviation | By Dominick Andoh | As KLM Royal Dutch Airlines celebrates 65 years of continuous service in Ghana, the airline is reaffirming its role as a crucial enabler of trade, tourism, and investment between the two countries.

Since its inaugural flight to Accra in 1960, KLM has served as a bridge between two nations — facilitating the movement of goods, investors, and professionals across continents. Speaking to AviationGhana.com, Isabelle Indeweij Gerlings, Country Manager for Air France-KLM Ghana, said aviation remains central to the growing Ghana–Netherlands economic relationship.

“Every flight we operate is more than passenger transport; it is a link between businesses, cultures, and opportunities,” she said.

The daily KLM service between Accra and Amsterdam provides direct access to one of Europe’s most important trade and logistics hubs, Schiphol Airport, connecting Ghanaian exporters to over 300 global destinations. From perishable goods to technology and textiles, Ghanaian businesses rely on KLM’s efficient air cargo network to reach international markets.

In recent years, KLM has also supported Dutch investment missions and trade fairs in Ghana, while assisting Ghanaian entrepreneurs seeking partnerships in Europe. The airline’s collaboration with the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana and key trade associations has contributed to deepening bilateral cooperation.

Tourism is another major beneficiary. KLM has been instrumental in promoting Ghana as a destination for leisure and cultural tourism among Dutch travelers. “We’re proud that our flights not only carry business and government travelers but also tourists discovering Ghana’s culture, history, and hospitality,” Ms. Gerlings added.

KLM sees continued potential in West Africa’s emerging economies. “Our commitment to Ghana goes beyond air service; it’s about fostering sustainable connections that drive shared growth,” she said.

After 65 years, KLM remains one of Ghana’s most trusted international airlines and a symbol of the enduring Ghana–Netherlands friendship.
