This closure is necessary for essential runway repairs and will take place for a set number of hours each day, with the aim of reducing any potential service disruptions.  

Starting toward the end of March 2025, the runway will be closed daily from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM local time for the next two years, concluding in March 2027.

On October 23, 2024, GACL Managing Director Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare detailed the closure in a letter. She confirmed to AviationGhana.Com on February 11, 2025, that the specific dates in March for the maintenance work will be finalized with the contractor soon.

Mrs. Opare assured that GACL is coordinating with airlines whose schedules typically coincide with the closure times to ensure that operations remain largely unaffected.
