
Obuobia Darko-Opoku appointed Administrator of Ghana Medical Trust Fund | By David Kwakutse | President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Ms. Obuobia Darko-Opoku as the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (MahamaCares) Secretariat.
Ms. Obuobia Darko-Opoku will vacate her current role as Deputy Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited and will oversee the implementation of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, a key promise of the Mahama-led administration to make medical care accessible and affordable for citizens.
The reassignment was confirmed in a letter from the Office of the President, citing Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 15(1) of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Act, 2025 (Act 1144).
Her appointment to the new position is subject to the advice of the Fund’s Governing Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
Madam Obuobia Darko-Opoku is a distinguished executive with extensive experience in corporate management, human resource leadership, strategic communications, and institutional growth. She has a proven track record of driving organisational transformation, optimising corporate structures, and enhancing stakeholder engagement across multiple sectors.
She previously served as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, where she played a pivotal role in operational oversight, business development, and strategic reforms. Her leadership was instrumental in improving institutional efficiency, streamlining policy implementation, and driving sustainable growth.
With a solid foundation in Human Resource Management, Obuobia has led high-performing teams, championed talent development initiatives, and implemented corporate policies that boost productivity and organisational excellence. Her expertise encompasses corporate services, governance, and administration, positioning her as a leader in fostering high-impact workplace cultures.
Beyond corporate leadership, she has excelled in brand management, public relations, and media strategy, shaping and protecting institutional reputations. As the founder of the Ignite Youth Empowerment Initiative, she has mentored and empowered hundreds of young women in leadership, career development, and personal growth.
Obuobia holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and advanced master’ s degrees in Brands and Communications Management (University of Professional Studies) and Public Relations (Ghana Institute of Journalism). She is currently pursuing a PhD in Marketing, further solidifying her expertise in business strategy, stakeholder engagement, and institutional advancement.
