President Mahama Orders Integration of All Airports | By Patrick Acheampong | President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate integration of digital systems at all major airports in Ghana to ensure smooth and efficient passenger processing.
He made this call during the official launch of the Air Navigation Services (ANS) Centre and the Multi-Agency Command Centre for the Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems in Accra.
In his speech, President Mahama highlighted that the deployment of the API and PNR platforms marks a key step toward digitising Ghana’s travel and border control systems.
He instructed the Ministers of Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to work together and extend the current digital platform to include long-awaited e-visa services and fully integrate with land and sea border entry points.
“The future of travel is digital, and Ghana must not be left behind,” he affirmed.
Mahama emphasised that these systems should be connected with e- gate infrastructure, customs operations, and other border management tools to optimise efficiency and enhance national security. He also noted that such initiatives are vital not only for streamlining passenger experiences but also for promoting tourism and business travel.
The President made it clear that this modernisation programme should extend beyond Kotoka International Airport’ s Terminal 3, urging urgent integration at Terminal 2, the newly constructed Kumasi International Airport, and the Tamale International Airport.
“We must think beyond Kotoka International Airport,” Mahama stated. “Urgent steps are needed to connect these systems across all our international entry points to ensure Ghana benefits fully from what we are witnessing today.”
Once operational, the e- visa system is expected to simplify visa applications, cut bureaucratic delays, and make Ghana a more appealing destination for tourists and investors.
