Turkish Airlines’ Ghana Country Manager Bows Out After Successful Tenure, Heads to Hong Kong | By Dominick Andoh | Mr. Aytekin Serbest, the outgoing Ghana General Manager for Turkish Airlines, has completed his term of service in Accra, leaving behind an impressive record of growth and visibility for the Istanbul-based carrier in the Ghanaian market.
He will now assume a new role as General Manager for Turkish Airlines in Hong Kong, one of Asia’s most competitive and dynamic aviation hubs.
During his stewardship in Ghana, Mr. Serbest spearheaded a significant expansion of Turkish Airlines’ operations, most notably increasing flight frequency from seven flights per week to 12. This growth not only deepened the airline’s footprint in Ghana but also cemented its position as one of the leading European carriers serving the West African region.
The decision to scale up frequencies was in response to growing passenger and cargo demand between Accra and Istanbul, reflecting Ghana’s rising role as a key travel and trade hub in West Africa. The additional flights also created greater connectivity opportunities for Ghanaian travellers heading to destinations across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, where Turkish Airlines operates one of the world’s most extensive route networks.
Under Mr. Serbest’s leadership, Turkish Airlines also strengthened its brand visibility and engagement in the Ghanaian market. The airline deepened collaborations with travel trade partners and enhanced the passenger experience through consistent service delivery. Aviation stakeholders in Accra have praised him for building strong industry relationships and raising the airline’s profile among Ghanaian travellers.
As he takes up his new position in Hong Kong, Mr. Serbest leaves Ghana at a time when Turkish Airlines is well-positioned for further growth.
His new assignment underscores the airline’s trust and confidence in his leadership, particularly as Hong Kong continues to recover its status as a major international aviation hub following the global pandemic.
Aviation insiders believe his experience in West Africa, one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, will help him navigate the complexities of Hong Kong’s highly competitive environment.
