Ghana to regularise labour export – Finance Minister | By Joojo Maapa | Ghana is to formalise the export of skilled and unskilled labour to various countries to ensure the rights and welfare of its citizens are protected.
Presenting the 2025 Budget and Economic Policy of Government to Ghana’s 276-member Parliament, Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, noted: “Mr. Speaker, beginning this year we will formalise the export of Ghanaian labour to other countries. This will ensure a structured and beneficial system for Ghanaian workers seeking employment abroad and create safer, legal pathways for them to work in foreign countries while protecting their rights and welfare.
This will also reduce illegal migration, prevent worker exploitation, and maximize the economic benefits of remittances and boost foreign exchange earnings.”
Ghana has been exporting highly skilled nurses to Barbados since 2020, following the signing of a unique healthcare partnership in 2020.
