Air Tanzania has reversed its decision to suspend flights between Dar es Salaam and Moscow, confirming that services on the route will resume on Monday, September 7, 2026.
The national carrier announced the resumption on Friday, just hours after it had earlier stated that flights TC422 and TC423 would be temporarily suspended from September 4.
According to the airline, the initial suspension followed a routine assessment of the operating environment along the route. While no specific details were given at the time, Air Tanzania stressed that safety was the primary consideration.
“Safety considerations always take precedence over commercial ones,” the airline said in its initial statement.
In a follow-up announcement, the carrier said it had completed the assessment in consultation with relevant authorities and had taken the decision to restart operations.
The development comes at a time of heightened concern over aviation safety around Russian airspace. In recent days, several airports in Moscow have reported operational disruptions linked to drone activity.
It also follows a recent warning by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the risks facing airlines operating in Russian airspace. Air Tanzania, however, did not directly link its decision to the warning.
Air Tanzania launched its direct service between Tanzania and Russia in July 2026, a relatively new route that made it the only airline operating regular direct passenger flights between the two countries.
For passengers affected by the brief suspension, the airline has provided relief options. Travelers who postponed their journeys will be able to rebook without additional charges, while those who opted for refunds can purchase new tickets at prevailing fares.
The airline has confirmed that bookings for the Moscow service are open again and said it will continue to monitor conditions along the route and across its wider network, noting that further measures could be taken if circumstances change.
