GACL MD WELCOMES UGANDA AIRLINES TO ACCRA, CITES TRADE AND TOURISM BENEFITS | By Dominick Andoh
The Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, has welcomed the commencement of Uganda Airlines’ operations in Ghana, describing the development as a significant milestone in strengthening relations between Ghana and Uganda.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony to welcome the airline to Accra International Airport on October 27, 2026, Mrs. Opare said the new service would expand travel options for passengers while creating opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two countries.
She noted that the arrival of the Ugandan national carrier represented more than an addition to Ghana’s international aviation network, as it was expected to improve connectivity, stimulate tourism and cultural exchanges, facilitate trade and strengthen economic cooperation.
“The arrival of Ugandan airlines in Ghana represents a significant milestone in the growing relationship between the two countries,” she said.
She added that improved air links between West and East Africa would make travel more convenient for businesspeople, tourists and other passengers seeking to explore opportunities across the continent.
Uganda Airlines has commenced four weekly flights between Entebbe and Accra, operating on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays with Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
The new service adds another East African carrier to Accra’s international aviation network, bringing the number of East Africa-based airlines serving the airport to four.
Passengers travelling through the new connection will also have access to 19 destinations across 14 countries, including Nairobi, London, Dubai, Mumbai and Zanzibar.
Euroworld Air Services Limited has been appointed as Uganda Airlines’ General Sales Agent in Ghana.
The introduction of the route comes amid broader efforts by African airlines to improve intra-African connectivity and reduce dependence on indirect journeys through Europe and the Middle East.
For Ghana, the service is expected to provide an additional gateway to East Africa, supporting business travel, tourism and commercial partnerships.
The development also presents opportunities for Ugandan travellers and businesses to access Accra, one of West Africa’s important commercial centres.
