Known for its national parks, beaches and growing eco-tourism scene, the west African country is experiencing growth in tourism which has been facilitated by a variety of new tours as well as a new international airport terminal which opened in March 2023.

UK tour operator Naturetrek launched its first tour to Sierra Leone in 2024, with the new itinerary taking nature-lovers through the country’s rich rainforest habitat in search of primates and Picathartes birds.

Those interested in discovering Sierra Leone’s history and culture can do so with Rainbow Tours’ 2024 discovery trip, which explores historic sites such as Bunce Island, wildlife hotspots such as Tiwai Island and the world-classes beaches of the Freetown Peninsula.

Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mr Alhaji Fanday Turay, comments: “Plans for the new airline have been in the pipeline for many years, and we are now truly excited to share our progress with the world. We hope that the new routes will provide increased numbers of visitors with the chance to experience Sierra Leone’s renowned hospitality and wealth of cultural, natural and historic assets, first-hand. We hope to develop additional routes linking Sierra Leone with the USA in 2025.” tourismsierraleone.com.
