CIMG, Bank of Ghana Forge Closer Ties to Boost Customer-Centric Banking | By David Kwakutse | The Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG) has held strategic talks with the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, aimed at enhancing collaboration between the two institutions to promote customer-centric innovation and professionalism within Ghana’s financial sector.
The CIMG delegation, led by National President Michael Abbiw and accompanied by members of the newly constituted Governing Council, used the opportunity to introduce its new leadership team and propose key initiatives that align with the central bank’s mandate of financial stability and consumer protection.
A major highlight of the discussions was the Ghana Customer Satisfaction Index (GH-CSI), developed by CIMG, which has already begun to influence board-level decisions across several banks. The delegation noted that the index is fast becoming a strategic tool, providing independent, data-driven insights that help banks enhance service delivery, build public trust, and minimise customer complaints.
Discussions also explored several future collaborative initiatives. The CIMG proposed launching joint public education campaigns with the Bank of Ghana, focusing on cryptocurrencies and behavioral change relating to personal financial responsibility. The Institute also expressed its interest in contributing to the development of the Bank’s curriculum for non-interest banking, offering marketing insights at the professional certification level.
Additionally, the CIMG suggested engaging in joint research initiatives that would help shape customer-centric regulatory frameworks and support evidence-based policy development. The delegation emphasised the importance of professional development and capacity-building programmes to enhance the marketing competence of professionals across the financial sector.
Another key area discussed was the creation of a Reputation Risk Index—a strategic tool that would assess the alignment between the Bank’s core mandate and its perceived institutional warmth among key stakeholders. The conversation further extended to supporting banks’ climate and sustainability efforts through partnerships on green finance initiatives and alignment with global sustainability principles.
In a show of support for CIMG’s broader agenda, Governor Asiama expressed keen interest in participating in the upcoming 2025 AMC–TICON Africa Conference, Africa’s premier marketing and technology convergence event.
The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from both institutions to work together more closely, leveraging their respective strengths to improve customer experience, build stronger financial systems, and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s socio-economic development.
