Emirates Unveils World-First U-Dream Headrest for Economy Class | Emirates has launched the world’s first U-Dream headrest for Economy Class passengers, marking another step in the airline’s drive to improve the inflight experience. Airline introduces innovative seat feature to improve passenger comfort on long-haul flights
The new headrest provides enhanced neck and head support, allowing passengers to sleep or relax more comfortably during long journeys. Emirates has already started installing the feature across its fleet, reinforcing its commitment to delivering a better Economy Class experience.
New Headrest Offers Better Support
The U-Dream headrest forms part of Emirates’ Z400 Economy Class seat, developed with Safran Seats. It features a padded leather design with adjustable side wings that fold inward to cradle the head and neck.
Unlike traditional headrests, the U-Dream adjusts vertically and tilts to suit passengers of different heights and body types. As a result, travellers can maintain a more natural sleeping position without their heads falling forwards or sideways.
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has independently tested and certified the headrest, confirming that it meets strict aviation safety standards.
Fleet Rollout Already Underway
Emirates has already introduced the U-Dream headrest on three Airbus A350 aircraft. The airline expects every Emirates A350 to feature the innovation by the end of the year.
In addition, all 270 Boeing 777X aircraft on order will come with the headrest already installed. From 2027, Emirates will also begin fitting the feature on its retrofitted Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s.

Emirates Focuses on Economy Comfort
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, said the airline continues to invest heavily in customer comfort.
He explained that the U-Dream headrest significantly improves the sleeping experience for Economy Class passengers by providing full neck support. He also noted that passengers no longer need separate travel neck pillows, describing the innovation as another example of Emirates’ commitment to setting the standard for Economy travel.
According to the airline, customers have praised the headrest for its comfort and ease of use. Cabin crew have also received training to assist passengers whenever necessary.
Beyond the Headrest
The U-Dream launch forms part of Emirates’ wider strategy to enhance the Economy Class experience.
Passengers benefit from widebody aircraft, spacious cabins, generous legroom and ergonomic seating across the airline’s Airbus A350s, A380s and Boeing 777s. The latest A350 also offers 13.3-inch 4K entertainment screens, USB-C charging, higher cabin ceilings and improved seating layouts.
Meanwhile, Emirates’ award-winning ice entertainment system provides more than 6,500 channels of movies, television programmes, music, podcasts and live sports, making it the largest onboard entertainment library in the aviation industry.
The airline is also expanding Starlink internet across its fleet, giving passengers fast onboard connectivity throughout their journey.
Award-Winning Service
Emirates continues to strengthen its reputation through complimentary multi-course meals, family-friendly services and multilingual cabin crew representing 140 nationalities.
Customers also benefit from loyalty rewards through Emirates Skywards, while long-haul travellers receive complimentary amenity kits and children enjoy dedicated travel packs and entertainment.
Setting a New Standard
With the introduction of the U-Dream headrest, Emirates aims to raise the benchmark for Economy Class travel. The airline believes the innovation will deliver greater comfort, especially on long-haul flights, while reinforcing its position as a leader in passenger experience and onboard innovation.
