“Ghana stands firmly with our African partners as we pursue stronger representation at ICAO,” Hon. Nikpe said. “Together, we will ensure Africa’s voice is heard in shaping global aviation policy, particularly in the areas of safety, sustainability, and innovation.”

The Assembly, which runs from September 23 to October 3, brings together 193 member states, regulators, and aviation experts to deliberate on ICAO’s work program across safety, security, legal, economic, and technical cooperation.

At the opening ceremony, ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano called for intensified collaboration to address pressing issues such as cybersecurity, climate change, and equitable access to aviation technologies.

Ghana is expected to use its platform not only to highlight its own achievements—including an Effective Implementation rate of 89.89 percent that earned it two ICAO Council President’s Certificates in 2019, but also to galvanize African solidarity.

Ghana is expected to use the Assembly to deepen cooperation, strengthen regional aviation networks, and promote African unity in advancing safety, sustainability, and innovation on the global agenda.
