Ghana's 24-hour economic policy starts July 2

Ghana’s 24-hour economic policy starts July 2 | By Obed Andoh | The government of Ghana has announced the official launch of its highly-anticipated 24-hour economy initiative, set for Wednesday, July 2, 2025. Mr. Goosie Tanoh, the Presidential Advisor overseeing the policy, shared this update during the final policy document presentation to the Speaker of Parliament on June 26.

The 24-hour economy is a cornerstone of the National Democratic Congress’s campaign promises from the 2024 elections, aiming to combat unemployment and enhance productivity through continuous economic activity.

Mr. Tanoh expressed the government’s commitment to the initiative, outlining that the policy focuses on three key pillars: transforming production, optimizing supply chains and market systems, and boosting human capital.

He shared that these foundational pillars are supported by eight strategic sub-programmes, including Grow24, which aims to modernize agriculture; Make 24, focused on industrial and manufacturing growth; Connect 24, designed to optimize supply chains; and Aspire 24, intended to foster a cultural shift towards a productivity-driven national mindset.

A standout aspect of this initiative is the plan to incorporate digital skills training into the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) curriculum, preparing the youth of Ghana for new job opportunities. Additionally, the ‘Show Ghana’ initiative will press nationwide cultural assets into the spotlight to enhance tourism and increase foreign revenue.

In his response, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin welcomed the proposal but stressed the importance of legislative support to ensure the initiative’s sustainability. He encouraged the 24-hour Economy Secretariat to work alongside lawmakers on a legislative bill that would formalize the programme, guaranteeing its continuation regardless of political changes.
