VRA Reaffirms Commitment to Reliable Power for SMEs and Mining Sector
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable and affordable electricity to support Ghana’s industrialisation agenda, with particular emphasis on the mining sector and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Speaking on the importance of energy security to national development, the Chief Executive Officer of the VRA, Edward Obeng Kenzo, said dependable electricity supply remains fundamental to driving economic growth, creating jobs and improving the competitiveness of businesses.
According to him, the availability of stable power is critical to sustaining operations in Ghana’s mining industry while enabling SMEs, the backbone of the country’s economy, to expand production and contribute more significantly to national development.
“The bedrock now of the economy is reliable and affordable electricity power to power the mining industry as well as small and medium enterprises,” Mr. Obeng Kenzo said.
The VRA CEO noted that access to dependable electricity is increasingly becoming a strategic requirement for industries seeking to increase productivity, reduce operating costs and attract new investment.
The mining sector, one of Ghana’s leading foreign exchange earners, relies heavily on uninterrupted power for exploration, extraction and mineral processing, while SMEs depend on affordable electricity to improve efficiency and remain competitive.
VRA’s commitment aligns with the government’s broader objective of ensuring a resilient electricity supply capable of supporting industrial expansion and economic transformation.
As Ghana continues to pursue value addition, manufacturing and increased private sector participation, reliable electricity remains a critical enabler of sustainable development.
With continued investments in power generation and system reliability, the VRA says it remains focused on providing the stable energy needed to power businesses, strengthen investor confidence and support Ghana’s long-term economic aspirations.
