Tourism Expert Kwakye Donkor calls on GTDC CEO Prof. Kobby Mensah | Globally respected tourism expert, Mr. Kwakye Donkor, has paid a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Development Company (GTDC), Prof. Kobby Mensah, to discuss Ghana’s tourism transformation agenda and recent innovations at GTDC.
Mr. Donkor, a Ghanaian national based in South Africa, is a leading figure in the global tourism and destination marketing space and currently serves as CEO of Africa Tourism Partners. During the meeting held at the GTDC headquarters, Mr. Donkor expressed strong optimism about the direction Ghana’s tourism sector is taking under the leadership of Prof. Mensah and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
In particular, he praised the strategic systems development being rolled out by GTDC, citing the Ghana Tourism Marketplace (GTM) and the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform (GTiP) as groundbreaking interventions capable of unlocking the country’s long-anticipated tourism potential.
“Given the level of innovation and systems thinking GTDC is bringing to the table, especially with the GTM and GTiP, we are finally seeing the kind of structural transformation the sector has needed for years. I am genuinely excited about what’s coming,” Mr. Donkor noted.
Prof. Mensah, in response, outlined GTDC’s comprehensive three-level strategic approach aimed at revitalising Ghana’s tourism infrastructure, strategy, and digital backbone. He emphasized that the company is nearing completion of the first phase, focused on infrastructure, setting the stage for strategic rollout and technology integration.
“Our efforts are currently centered on building the right systems to serve both local and international tourism stakeholders. The Ghana Tourism Marketplace (GTM) is a collaborative platform co-developed with the Ghana Tourism Authority and sector trade associations to boost digital access, visibility, and efficiency in the sector,” Prof. Mensah explained.
The meeting underscored growing confidence in GTDC’s role as a change agent in Ghana’s tourism ecosystem and affirmed Mr. Donkor’s continued support for strategic national tourism development initiatives. As Ghana seeks to position itself as a premier destination in Africa, such high-level engagements between tourism experts and institutional leaders are critical to aligning vision with execution.
