Access Bank Ghana Appoints Two Executive Directors to Drive Growth and Digital Transformation | Access Bank Ghana has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of two Executive Directors following approval from the Bank of Ghana.
The bank named Eugene Ocansey as Executive Director for Retail and SME Banking. It also appointed Nana Kwabena Afoom as Executive Director for Wholesale Banking. The appointments support the bank’s growth, transformation, and franchise protection strategy.
Experienced Leaders Join Senior Management
Mr Ocansey brings more than 21 years of banking experience. Eighteen of those years were spent in senior leadership roles. His career includes positions at GCB Bank PLC, Prudential Bank Ghana Limited, and Stanbic Bank Ghana. He holds an Executive MBA in Marketing from University of Ghana Business School. His academic background also includes a BSc in Tourism from University of Cape Coast.
Executive programmes at University of Cambridge, University of Oxford, and Henley Business School further strengthened his expertise.
Afoom to Lead Wholesale Banking Operations
Mr Afoom joins the executive team with over 24 years of banking experience. His expertise covers corporate, commercial, SME, and retail banking. Before this appointment, he served as Divisional Head of Corporate Banking at Guaranty Trust Bank Ghana.
That role focused on corporate strategy, business growth, and portfolio management. He earned an MSc in International Economics, Banking and Finance from Cardiff Business School.
His first degree in Agricultural Economics came from University of Ghana. He also completed the McKinsey & Company Executive Leadership Programme.
Board Expresses Confidence
Board Chairperson Ama Sarpong Barwuah said the appointments reflect the bank’s commitment to world-class leadership.
“Eugene and Nana bring the experience, character, and execution capability required to help us grow sustainably, transform for the future, and protect the trust that our customers and stakeholders place in us,” she said. Managing Director Pearl Nkrumah described both executives as proven leaders with strong industry experience.
She said their appointments will strengthen customer engagement, governance, and risk management while supporting future growth.
