Absa Ghana Commissions New Accra Head Office | Absa Bank Ghana has commissioned its new head office, Absa Place, in Accra as it strengthens its operations and positions the bank for long-term growth in Ghana’s financial services sector.
The bank officially commissioned the facility on Friday, September 25. Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang attended the ceremony alongside senior officials from the Bank of Ghana, Absa Group and other stakeholders.
The new facility represents a major investment in Absa Ghana’s operations. However, the Vice President said the value of the investment should extend beyond the building itself.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged Absa to translate the investment into stronger services and greater opportunities for businesses and customers. She specifically called on the bank to expand access to finance for women-owned businesses and young entrepreneurs. She also encouraged Absa to develop practical financial solutions for businesses in agriculture, manufacturing and trade.
The Vice President further urged the bank to use technology to deepen financial inclusion. At the same time, she stressed the need to ensure that customers who require personalised assistance do not lose access to banking services as digital platforms expand. Cybersecurity and information security also featured prominently in her remarks.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang called for stronger safeguards to protect customers’ funds, personal information and transactions. She noted that financial institutions must combine innovation with adequate security measures. She also welcomed the Bank of Ghana’s increased focus on cybersecurity. According to her, banks must continue investing in technology, systems and skilled personnel to protect customers and maintain confidence in the financial system.
Meanwhile, Bank of Ghana Second Deputy Governor Matilda Asante-Asiedu said Absa Place should represent more than the completion of a modern corporate facility. She said the investment should support stronger governance, operational resilience, sound decision-making and sustained customer confidence.
The banking sector continues to undergo rapid technological changes. Digital platforms and payment systems are expanding, while customers are demanding faster and more convenient services. However, these developments also create new risks. Mrs Asante-Asiedu therefore stressed the need for strong internal controls, data protection, cybersecurity and effective risk management.
She said financial institutions must strengthen their ability to maintain operations during disruptions. The new facility, she added, should provide Absa Ghana with a resilient operating environment that supports collaboration and reliable service delivery. Mrs Asante-Asiedu also highlighted Absa Ghana’s responsibilities as a systemically important bank.
She explained that the bank’s financial and operational strength has implications beyond its customers. Its performance can affect businesses, employees, counterparties and confidence in the wider financial system.

Consequently, she urged the bank to maintain strong risk management practices. She also called for adequate liquidity, regulatory compliance and responsible business conduct. For Absa Ghana, the new headquarters also represents a commitment to responsible growth.
Managing Director Dr Edward Botchway said the bank’s board would continue to provide the oversight and stewardship needed to keep the institution strong and well governed. He noted that the investment in Absa Place creates an obligation to deliver value to customers and partners. “Our customers and partners also deserve to benefit from every investment that we celebrate,” he said.
Dr Botchway added that Absa would continue to focus on sustainable growth and effective customer service. The bank also plans to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s economic development. The commissioning of Absa Place therefore marks a significant milestone in Absa Ghana’s operations. Beyond providing a modern working environment, the facility places greater expectations on the bank to improve services, widen financial access and strengthen its resilience.
As Ghana’s financial sector becomes increasingly digital, Absa will also need to balance innovation with security, strong governance and customer protection.
