Air Ghana Sets Date To Launch Domestic Passenger Flights | By Dominick Andoh | In a significant development for Ghana’s aviation sector, Air Ghana, a company known for its excellence in cargo handling at Kotoka International Airport (KIA), has announced plans to enter the domestic passenger airline market by the end of 2025.

The move marks a significant expansion of the airline’s business model, which has focused on award-winning cargo services and ground handling operations for years. According to a statement issued to AviationGhana, Air Ghana confirmed that it is currently in the “intermediate stage” of preparing to launch scheduled passenger services, pending the completion of regulatory approvals and operational setup.

“Air Ghana confirms that it is in the intermediate stage of expanding its operations to passenger services, with a goal of launching flights towards the end of 2025, subject to the conclusion of all regulatory and operational requirements. Further information will be made public at the appropriate time,” the statement read.

Air Ghana plans to operate these services using a Boeing 737, a medium-haul jet known for its reliability, efficiency, and strong safety record. The aircraft type suggests the airline is preparing to offer robust connectivity within Ghana’s domestic market, with potential for expansion to regional destinations in the future.

The announcement adds a fresh layer of competition to Ghana’s growing domestic aviation space, which is currently served by Africa World Airlines (AWA) and PassionAir. Both carriers operate flights connecting major cities like Accra, Kumasi, Tamale, and Takoradi. The entry of a new airline is expected to stimulate the market, offering passengers more options, potentially improved service levels, and competitive fares.

Industry analysts believe Air Ghana’s established operational base, experienced aviation personnel, and strong cargo brand will give it a competitive edge in successfully entering the passenger market. The expansion also aligns with broader trends in Africa’s aviation landscape, where countries are working to improve air connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate domestic commerce through affordable and accessible flights.

The timing of the launch, in the final quarter of 2025, could strategically position Air Ghana to capture year-end travel demand and test the market ahead of full-scale operations in 2026.

Recruitment of relevant staff underway

Air Ghana has launched a targeted recruitment drive as part of its expansion into scheduled passenger services. The airline is currently looking to fill several key positions, including Call Centre Agents, Ticketing Agents, Supervisors, and Cabin Crew.

This recruitment effort reflects the company’s commitment to building a skilled and customer-oriented team that can deliver high-quality service right from the start.

According to the company, interested candidates should possess strong communication skills and a genuine passion for the aviation industry. This hiring initiative highlights Air Ghana’s preparedness to enter the domestic passenger market with a solid operational and customer service foundation.
