The United States Embassy in Accra has opened thousands of additional non-immigrant visa appointment slots, with many available immediately, as it continues to process applications amid rising travel demand linked to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the United States.

In a public notice, the Embassy confirmed that routine non-immigrant visa services remain ongoing and encouraged prospective travellers, particularly those planning to attend the World Cup, to apply early if they do not already hold a valid U.S. visa. The tournament, scheduled for 2026, is expected to attract millions of international visitors, including football fans, business travellers and members of the Ghanaian diaspora.

The Embassy advised applicants to submit requests only through the official U.S. visa appointment website, warning against third-party agents and unofficial platforms. Early applications, officials noted, will help applicants avoid last-minute processing challenges as global demand intensifies closer to the tournament.

The opening of additional appointment slots is expected to ease pressure on the visa system in Ghana, where demand for U.S. travel typically spikes around major global events, peak holiday periods, and academic cycles.

The move provides welcome clarity for airlines, tour operators, and sports travel planners preparing packages around the World Cup.

Beyond football tourism, the Embassy’s announcement is also expected to support business travel, family visits, and educational exchanges between Ghana and the United States in the run-up to 2026.

With Accra serving as a major travel hub in West Africa, increased visa processing capacity is seen as a critical enabler of mobility ahead of one of the world’s largest sporting events.

The Embassy urged applicants to ensure their documentation is complete and accurate and to schedule appointments well in advance to improve processing outcomes.
