Ghana Tourism Development Company Limited (GTDC) is increasingly positioning itself as a major commercial driver within Ghana’s tourism sector through the rollout of multiple tourism-focused products and digital platforms aimed at boosting visitor experiences, investment promotion and sector-wide connectivity.

Under the leadership of Professor Kobby Mensah, the state-owned tourism company has expanded beyond its traditional mandate into a diversified tourism development and facilitation institution supporting travel, hospitality, transportation, events and tourism investment promotion.

The company officially unveilled a portfolio of new products and services last week in Accra, highlighting its growing role within Ghana’s tourism ecosystem.

Among the flagship initiatives is the Ghana Tourism Marketplace (GTM), a digital platform designed to connect tourism and hospitality vendors across Ghana on a centralized marketplace, helping businesses improve visibility and access to consumers.

GTDC is also promoting the Ghana Tourism Investment Platform (GTIP), a digital portal that provides investors with data and profiles on investable tourism sites across Ghana, a move expected to support tourism infrastructure expansion and private sector participation.

As part of efforts to improve tourism mobility and visitor experiences, the company has developed the Fleet Pool Management Services (FPMS), a transportation management platform intended to provide safe, efficient and reliable transport services within Ghana’s tourism sector.

Another growing tourism product is “Accra by Night” (ABN), a nightlife tourism initiative offering guided evening tours of Accra aboard open-top double-decker buses aligned with Ghana’s 24-hour economy vision.

GTDC is also promoting ecotourism and heritage tourism through attractions such as the Big Tree tourist site at Akyem Oda and the Assin Manso Slave River site, one of Ghana’s most historically significant slave trade heritage locations.

The company’s expanding portfolio further includes the GH Tourism Calendar digital event platform, educational campus tours and cross-border tour operations within West Africa.

Prof. Mensah noted that GTDC’s growing commercialization strategy reflects broader efforts to position tourism as a major economic growth pillar while improving tourism product packaging, accessibility and destination marketing in Ghana.

The expansion also highlights increasing efforts by Ghana’s tourism authorities to leverage technology, heritage, transportation and experiential tourism to attract both domestic and international travelers.
