Fake News: Turkish to Launch flights to Kumasi via Ouagadougou | By Dominick Andoh | AviationGhana sources close to Istanbul-based Turkish Airlines have debunked reports in sections of the Ghanaian media and on social media that it is set to start scheduled passenger flights to the Prempeh I international Airport, Kumasi starting on March 31, 2025.
The FAKE report claims Turkish Airline will operate 3x per week using a Boeing 737-8 Max to Kumasi with a stopover in Burkina Faso. An AviationGhana source close to the airline, when contacted about the issue said: ” This [News] is Fake” .
The airline is rather scaling up its operations in Ghana from 10 flights per week between Istanbul and Accra’s Kotoka International Airport to 12 flights per week starting in April 2025.
“Please be advised that effective 04 Apr 2025, we will be increasing the frequency of our flights from Accra to all beyond (ACC-IST-ACC) from 10 flights to 12 flights per week. This change is in response to the growing demand for travel to this popular destination,” Turkish Airlines said in a letter to its travel trade partners in Accra.
The additional service will make Turkish Airlines the largest European Airlines (by frequency) servicing Accra’s Kotoka International Airport with onward connections to 131 destinations worldwide.
To make travel more comfortable, Turkish Airlines offers a wide range of privileged services for its guests. These include the Stopover Istanbul program, which provides free hotel accommodation for transit passengers with layovers of 20 hours or more, and the TourIstanbul program, which offers complimentary guided tours showcasing Istanbul’s historic landmarks for layovers lasting 6 to 24 hours.
