Fuel Prices Set to Rise Again as NPA Increases Petrol Price Floor | The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has announced new fuel price floors for the first pricing window of June 2026, signalling another increase in petrol and LPG prices while diesel prices are expected to reduce slightly.

According to the latest pricing outlook released by the NPA, the changes are influenced by movements on the international petroleum market and other prevailing economic conditions affecting the downstream petroleum sector.

Under the new pricing structure, the petrol price floor has been increased to GH¢15.20 per litre, representing a rise of GH¢0.60 from the GH¢14.60 per litre recorded during the second pricing window of May 2026. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is also expected to see a price increase, with the price floor moving from GH¢13.16 per kilogram to GH¢13.48 per kilogram, marking an increase of GH¢0.32.

Diesel, however, is projected to record a slight decline in price. The NPA stated that the diesel price floor for the first pricing window of June has been set at GH¢15.49 per litre, compared to GH¢15.81 per litre in the previous pricing window. This reflects a reduction of GH¢0.32 per litre.

The price floor represents the minimum amount at which Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) are allowed to retail petroleum products across the country. The NPA explained that all licensed petroleum marketing companies are expected to comply with the approved price floors in line with the Petroleum Products Pricing Guidelines (PPPG).

The authority further clarified that the approved price floors do not include premiums charged by International Oil Trading Companies (IOTCs) or operational margins retained by Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies (BIDECs), marketers and dealers. These additional costs are determined independently by the various industry players.

The latest adjustments come after the government reviewed fuel relief interventions introduced earlier to cushion consumers against rising global fuel prices linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

As part of the revised measures, the government has removed the GH¢0.36 per litre subsidy on petrol while reducing diesel support from GH¢2.00 per litre to GH¢1.07 per litre. Officials say the intervention will remain in effect for two pricing windows and may be reviewed depending on market developments and global oil price trends.
